Service Design: How we do it...
techniques in the context of live projects
In our first Service Design Thinks Leeds, we asked about the starting points for service design - the voices and insights that help us create new services and improve ones already in delivery.
This time we'll move onto the next stage, to delve more deeply into how services are designed:
- How do designers turn insight into action?
- How are users involved in the creation of a service?
- How do you translate concepts into reality?
- Can service design change people's behaviour or simply adapt to it?
- What's the difference between design and service design techniques?
- Who designs services in different contexts?
We are delighted to welcome the following speakers:
Simon East | Drivegain | @SimonAtWork
Designing a new eco-driving service
Simon has worked with mobile devices and applications for over 20 years. He started his career at British PDA pioneer Psion and was part of the executive team that transformed Psion's software group into Symbian. In 2001 he founded the mobile photo uploading company Cognima (later to become ShoZu). In December 2008 he co-founded DriveGain, who produce an iPhone app that helps people save fuel as they drive.
Jean Mutton | Student Experience Project Manager, University of Derby | @myderbi
Designing the Enrolment experience at the University of Derby
The application of service design techniques is relatively new in the higher education sector, but in the light of the Browne Review and the uncertain future of HE funding, the need to place the student at the heart of the service process is gaining increased recognition. In this session, Jean will talk about the impact which a service design approach has made on the student experience of enrolment at Derby.
by Skype link: Lauren Currie | Snook, Glasgow | @redjotter
How Snook do Service Design in Scotland
With an enthusiasm for service design, public services and working with people, Lauren Currie is focused on changing the lives of British people through service design and practical action. Lauren has worked as a freelance service designer for Designthinkers in Holland, Deutsche Telekom in Berlin and London-based Future Gov. She mentors and teaches undergraduate students at universities all over Europe. As the Director of MyPolice, Lauren is working closely with police and the public to ensure the police service is the very best it can be. Snook's most recent venture Making Service Sense is a service designed to help people make sense of the discipline of Service Design.
Who should come?
This event is open to everyone working in the design of services whether it be corporate/public/education/health/social sectors. This is a great chance to learn from three quite distinct approaches and gather together afterwards at the pub to explore thoughts further.
Everyone is welcome.
